SCHOOL
The Sled Dog Society of Wales believe that all children have the right to leave school having reached their milestones, and in doing so they have reached their reading level potential and have accessed the enormous benefits that reading to a dog can offer. We aim to make certain that they are all given an opportunity to interact with a dog and improve their learning skills as a result of these visits. Our Sled Dog Society of Wales Therapy Dog Teams visit schools and they can help to raise a pupil's reading standard, as well as boost their self-confidence, significantly increase concentration levels and lessen behavioural problems. These visits can have an encouraging impact on a child's educational, social and emotional well-being.
Our “LetsRead2Dogs” method can help young people to enhance their literacy skills and support them and then in turn helps with their confidence and concentration in the classroom. Reading a story aloud to a SDSWTD Dog, a non-judgemental and quiet listener helps our younger people to get pleasure from the reading experience. They always look forward to their time with their four-legged furry friend, which in turn creates a special bond of trust, understanding and compassion for the needs of the their visiting therapy dog friend.
If you would like to access this wonderful opportunity of a special happy furry waggy-tailed visitor to help your pupils develop their literacy and concentration skills, please complete our registration form.

CARE HOMES
There are residents in care homes that do suffer from ill health and can on occasions experience feelings of loneliness, depression and other anxiety-related medical conditions. They may feel cut off from their loved ones and are lacking motivation or a reason to get up every day, a friendly Sled Dog Society of Wales Therapy Dog visit is an opportunity for those residents to have a chat and maybe talk about past memories of a much-loved dog or even reminisce over a previous encounter that happened.
Studies have shown that interacting with a SDSWTD dog can improve mental health and general well-being. It’s been noted that there is an increasing relationship with their carer and families also, and those who live with dementia can have feelings after a visit of elation and higher energy levels than general. It comes down to one simple fact - that is that dogs just make us feel happier!
