Therapy Dog Volunteers
As a dog owner, you’re probably well aware of the myriad health benefits attributed to our four-legged friends. Of course, dogs provide companionship, which, aside from easing loneliness, can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, boost morale and increase motivation. Furthermore, scientific data has revealed that even short interactions, as short as half an hour, with a dog are enough to deliver at least some of these therapeutic benefits, which persist even after the dog has left. At the Sled Dog Society of Wales Therapy Dogs (SDSWTD), we recognise that people, young and old, in all walks of life, can profit from the psychological and physiological advantages of a positive relationship with a dog. Thus, SDSWTD volunteers visit a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, hospitals, residential care homes, schools, prisons and public and private sector businesses. Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions, we are unable to visit individuals in their own homes at this time, but that’s really the only restriction. So, if you’re a friendly, outgoing person who enjoys meeting new people from a variety of backgrounds and you and your dog can spare an hour or two, every now and then, to spread a little love, joy and happiness, we’d like to hear from you! |
